LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky men?s soccer team, fresh off a 3-0 victory over UNC-Asheville on Sunday, returns to action as it plays host to the Louisville Cardinals on Thursday at the UK Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Kentucky (1-1) enters the match having won four of its last five meetings with the Cardinals, with the lone blemish coming after the teams played to a 1-1 draw in 2006. UK has not lost to Louisville since a 2002 setback, owning a 9-2-4 all-time record with the cross-state rival.
The Wildcats came out of the gates slow in its season-opening match with Cornell on Friday in the annual UK Invitational, losing 2-0 to the Big Red. The Wildcats rebounded with a 3-0 victory over UNC-Asheville on Sunday, behind a two-goal performance from senior Aaron Swanson. Defender Barry Rice netted the Wildcats first goal of the season, setting the stages for Swanson to put the game away, with his two goals.
In 2006, Kentucky capped one of its most successful seasons in the history of the program, winning 14 games, netting a school-record tying 44 goals, and finishing the campaign with a program best No. 13 national ranking.
Louisville (1-1) enters the contest after earning a 1-0 win over Oral Roberts on Sunday, bouncing back after a season-opening 1-0 loss to Memphis. The Cardinals, led by former Akron coach Ken Lolla, got a goal from freshman Austin Berry in its win over Memphis.
First kick is set for 7 p.m. and fans are encouraged to arrive early to ensure seating in preferred areas.
