IRVING, Texas — The Kentucky men?s soccer team with have its regular-season home finale televised, as Conference-USA and CSTV announced that they will carry the UK vs. SMU match on November 3.
The match, pitting the 2006 C-USA Champion vs. UK, the 2006 second-place team in C-USA, is scheduled for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff at the UK Soccer Complex.
A year ago, the Mustangs spent the majority of the season as the top-ranked team in the nation, edging the Wildcats in a regular-season matchup, and again in the C-USA Tournament Championship.
In 2006, Kentucky racked up one of the best seasons in the history of the program, rolling to 14 wins and a staggering 44 goals, finishing the season with a program-best No. 13 national ranking. The majority of the Wildcats goal scoring must be replaced in 2007 after losing current European professionals Riley O?Neill (38 points, seven game winners) and Michael D?Agostino (18 points).
UK, which always emphasizes defense under head coach Ian Collins, finished 23rd nationally in goals against average (0.78). Defensively, UK returns two veteran goal keepers in Dan Williams (37 saves) and Matt Troop (24 saves). Senior defender Nathan Marks, a native of Louisville, Ky., was tabbed as the C-USA preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
Kentucky began its exhibition season with a 1-1 tie with border rival Dayton on Monday evening. UK opens its regular season with the annual UK Invitational on Friday, August 31 at 7:30 p.m.
