The Kentucky football team will have its third major preseason scrimmage Tuesday night as the coaches look to make more depth chart decisions in preparation for the beginning of the season.
?We?ll go tomorrow night with a scrimmage, get some more film, and try to continue the evaluation process of where we are, who?s playing well, and who?s not,? Coach Rich Brooks said. ?There?s still some competition and once it?s set for the first game doesn?t mean it?s going to stay that way, either. The good news is in quite a few positions there?s not as big a difference as there used to be.?
One of the players Brooks has mentioned consistently during spring practice and continuing into preseason camp has been offensive lineman Zipp Duncan (Magnolia, Ky). Although just a redshirt sophomore, Duncan has been at defensive end and tight end as a Wildcat before moving to the O-Line in the spring. Even then, he has bounced between right tackle, left tackle, and left guard in an effort to get the best fit. Currently, the 6-5, 285-pound Duncan is atop the depth chart at left guard.
?He has worked as hard as anybody I?ve been around, one, going in there last spring (at a new position), practicing the whole spring undersized, working really hard on technique and doing it the right way, and then working extremely hard over the summer to add the weight and strength needed to play the position better,? Brooks said. ?He?s been willing to go from right tackle to left tackle to guard. Wherever we put him, he just rolls up his sleeves and goes to work and competes. He?s always competing.?
