LEXINGTON, Ky. — Former Kentucky baseball standout Matt Robinson returns to Lexington as a member of the Lake County Captains, facing off with the Lexington Legends on July 21-24.

Robinson, a member of the 2006 Southeastern Conference Champion Kentucky baseball team, has been playing for the Captains, the Class-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, for the past season. As a reliever out of the bullpen for Lake County, Robinson has worked in 12 games, tossing 18.1 innings, striking out 14. In an appearance on Thursday night, Robinson worked two hitless innings against the Greensboro Grasshoppers, striking out three.

Robinson transferred to Kentucky for his junior season and blossomed under associate head coach and pitching coach Gary Henderson. During his senior season, Robinson earned a 6-1 record in 22 games, worked 50 1/3 innings, and struck out 53. Following the Wildcats 2006 championship run, Robinson was signed to a free-agent contract by the Indians. Robinson is one of 11 former UK players currently in minor league baseball, including being one of six 2006 Wildcats currently playing for pay.

A native of Rapid City, S.D., Robinson becomes the second former UK player to make a summer stop in Lexington. Earlier in July, 2006 MLB fifth-round draft pick John Shelby returned to his native Lexington, hitting 6-for-16 during the four-game tilt.
