LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky freshman outfielder Bryan Rose has been named the New York Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game Most Valuable Player, after going 3-for-4 in the annual mid-season contest.

Rose, who redshirted as a freshman in 2007, has been a leader in the outfield for the Saratoga Phillies. A native of Renssalaer, N.Y., Rose ranks second on the team in batting average (.301), while batting third in the potent Philly order. The 6-foot, 190-pounder has played in 23 games, has driven in 13 runs, ripped six doubles, drawn 20 walks and struck out 14 times. Rose is also fleet of foot, having swiped four bases in six attempts. Rose has played centerfield for the majority of the summer and has yet to make a fielding error.

Several other Wildcats have continued an excellent summer pace, including Cape Cod performers Scott Green and Collin Cowgill. Green has accumulated a 1.04 ERA in 17.1 innings of action for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. The 6-foot-8, 245-pound right hander has started three games, while appearing in four. In his 17 1/3 innings, Green has struck out 13, walked only three, and allowed just two earned runs. In his one appearance out of the bullpen, Green entered to no-hit the opposition through three innings, picking up his first save of the summer. Earlier this summer, SEbaseball.com tabbed Green as the Pitcher of the Week in the Cape Cod League. Cowgill is currently batting .286 (20-for-70) with two triples, two home runs, and 11 RBI in 19 games as the centerfielder for the Red Sox.

Among the other summer standouts are Chris McClendon, who was named a Texas Collegiate Summer League All-Star, Sawyer Carroll, Duran Ferguson, Chris Wade, and Keenan Wiley. Carroll arrived to his summer league team, the Lacrosse Loggers, after the team had begun its season but has still tallied excellent numbers. In 17 games for the Loggers, Carroll has batted .318 (21-for-66) with two home runs, four RBI, and three doubles.

Ferguson, a fireballing right-hander, has pitched excellent in the New England Collegiate Summer League, hurling 12.1 innings and striking out 18. Ferguson has started two games and appeared in three, racking up a 1.46 ERA and a 1-1 record.

Wade, a Lexington native, is batting .288 (32-for-111) this season for the Medicine Hat Mavs in the Western Major Baseball League. The infielder has cranked three triples, five doubles, and 14 RBI. Wade has drawn 10 walks and stolen 5-of-8 base attempts.

Wiley, a speedy outfielder, has notched a .298 (14-for-47) average in 17 games in the Great Lakes League. The Richmond, Ky., native has stolen 8-of-8 base attempts and has yet to commit a fielding error.

Freshmen Brock Wright and Michael Seaborn have teamed up on the Amsterdam Mohawks of the New York Collegiate Summer League. Seaborn ranks second on the club in batting average, reaching at a .313 (25-for-80) clip. Seaborn has played in 25 games and driven in 13 runs. Wright and Seaborn are tied for the team lead with three home runs. Wright, a Paducah, Ky., native has driven in nine runs on the season.

Junior Brian Spear has also continued the Wildcat summer progress, batting .301 (31-for-103) with two home runs and 15 RBI for the Rochester Honkers of the Northwoods League.
