SAO PAULO, Brazil ? Sophomore Kentucky sprinter Jenna Martin (Nova Scotia, Canada) begins competition in the 2007 Pan Am Junior Athletics Championships as a member of Team Canada on Friday in Sau Paulo, Brazil.

Martin will participate in the semifinals of the women?s 400-meter dash which commences at 2:30 p.m. She looks to advance to Saturday?s final which takes place at 3:30 p.m.

Martin is coming off an impressive rookie campaign at the University of Kentucky, where she set the freshman school records in both the indoor and outdoor 400 meter. She advanced to the semifinals of the 400-meter dash at the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif., and holds the third-fastest time in school history in the outdoor 400 (52.60). Martin also recorded the second-fastest indoor 400 time (53.44) in UK annals. She was the anchor leg of UK?s 4×400 relay squad that set the second-fastest time in school history at the NCAA Mideast Regional in Columbia, Mo.

Martin had an impressive prep career in Nova Scotia, where she holds 53 records in her home province.
