WEST POINT, Miss.?The senior duo of Katie Johnson and Marissa Muir capped their careers off in the Blue and White by turning in an outstanding final-day performance at the SEC Championships Sunday.
Both seniors carded rounds of 78 in the final day of action to lead the Wildcats in the third round. Johnson and Muir appearing in their final tournament as collegiate athletes guided UK to their second consecutive season of 11th place in the conference tournament.
Johnson wrapped up her final tournament with flare, carding back-to-back rounds in the 70s, including a second round 76 to finish 43rd besting last season?s finish of 59th on the leaderboard. Muir also bettered her freshman year campaign, her only other appearance at the conference tournament, with her tie for 49th. As a rookie, she placed in a tie for 51st.
Georgia claimed the team and individual crown. The Lady Bulldogs were simply better than the rest of the field, winning by 16 strokes over second-place Florida. Georgia carded an astounding team score of just one-over-par for the weekend. Their top performer, and tournament individual winner, Taylor Leon used a five-under final round to conclude the tournament at eight-under.
Kentucky topped Ole Miss by 15 strokes, but trailed 10th place finisher Mississippi State by 17.
Junior Beth Felts was the top Wildcat finisher with a tie for 37th place. She turned in an eight-over par 80 in the final round. In her fantastic rookie season, Erica Still ended her first SEC Championships in a tie for 40th with a 16-over-par performance and a final round 79. The rookie concluded her season having led the Wildcats in most statistical categories including scoring average and led the team in scoring in seven tournaments.
Rounding out the scoring for UK was junior Elizabeth Dotson who finished in a tie for 47th place. Dotson, Felts and Still are the remaining letterwinners returning to the squad next season.
Muir and Johnson conclude their campaigns with the Wildcats with the conclusion of the SEC Championships. Both players finished their final year having played career-highs of 31 rounds and 11 tournaments. In addition, Johnson was named to the All-SEC Community Service Team for the second consecutive season earlier this week.
