WEST POINT, Miss.?Kentucky notched its second consecutive round of 308 as the team?s score remained steady, but improved play by Mississippi State pushed the host squad ahead of the Blue and White in the standings after round two of the SEC Championships today at the Old Waverly Golf Club.
Junior Beth Felts turned in the best performance of any Wildcat as she pushed further ahead in the standings to a tie for 28th place to lead all UK scorers. Felts fired a three-over-par 75 in the second round of competition. Georgia?s Garrett Phillips remains atop the individual leaderboard as the Bulldog turned in an even-par performance today to remain at five-under.
The Lady Bulldogs? also remain at the head of the pack in the team standings with an eight-shot lead over South Carolina. The Gamecocks fired the best team score of the second round with a 289 to edge into the second spot in the standings. Kentucky trails 10th place Mississippi State by just nine strokes heading into the final day of play.
No Kentucky player shot higher than an eight-over-par 80, today led by three players with rounds of 77 or below. Felts enjoyed the best round, but senior Katie Johnson was just a stroke behind her teammate with an impressive 76 to follow up her opening round 80 yesterday. Junior Elizabeth Dotson carded a second round 77 to go with her opening round 79.
Senior Marissa Muir and freshman Erica Still both fired rounds of 80 in the second day of play. Still who led the Wildcat scorers in the opening round with a 73 fell to a tie for 35th place, and is just two overall strokes behind Felts for the team lead. Dotson and Johnson are tied for 43rd place, while Muir stands in 55th.
