The University of Kentucky football team will pay tribute to Virginia Tech University during Saturday?s Blue/White Spring Football Game.
The Wildcat football players will wear a ?VT? logo sticker on one side of their helmets in recognition of the students, staff, families, and friends of Virginia Tech. The Wildcats will wear the customary ?UK? logo sticker on the other side of their helmets.
?We?ll wear the Virginia Tech stickers on our helmets in honor of the families and people who have suffered a great deal of pain and injury,? Coach Rich Brooks said. ?Coach Beamer (VT head football coach Frank Beamer) is a good friend of mine. All universities are in solidarity in grieving for this tragedy.?
In addition to the helmet stickers, UK coaches will wear Virginia Tech caps during the game and there will be a moment of silence before the national anthem.
Players to be Presented with Bowl Rings After Blue/White: The rings commemorating UK?s championship of the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl arrived today (Friday) and will be presented to the players immediately following the conclusion of Saturday?s Blue/White Game.
Kentucky won the Music City Bowl by defeating Clemson, 28-20, on Dec. 29 in Nashville. It capped an 8-5 season that represented UK?s best record and first bowl win in 22 years.
Brooks Pleased to this Point of Spring: Coach Rich Brooks indicated that, in general, he is pleased with the progress of the Wildcats during 2007 spring practice.
?It?s been a good spring, although it can always be better,? Brooks said. ?We?ve had some injuries that have prevented some players from participating, particularly in the offensive line, but that has given some other players a lot of repetitions and they?ve taken advantage of the opportunity.
?All things being equal, it?s been a good spring, but it?s not over. We need to finish strong in the Blue/White Game tomorrow.?
