CONWAY, S.C. ? The Kentucky track and field team captured nine events to highlight the team?s 2007 outdoor season-opener Saturday at a cold and rainy Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina University.

The Wildcat distance and mid-distance runners had a strong day as Bruce Hordusky (Men?s 10,000 meter), Taylor Miller (Women?s 10,000 Meter), Lindsay Petri (Women?s 5,000 Meter), Jonathan Thomas (Men?s 5,000 Meter) all finished first in their events.

Thomas claimed the men?s 5,000 meter with a personal-best mark of 14:55, while Petri won her first collegiate event in the women?s 5,000 with a time of 18:16. Georganne Way and freshman Katherine Peterson finished second and fourth, respectively, in the women?s 3,000 meter.

Sprinter Jose Acevedo notched an impressive win in the men?s 100 meter dash with a mark of 10.45. Nathan Browning (10.74) and Kwasi Obeng (10.79) each notched personal bests in the men?s 100 to finish eighth and 10th in the event, respectively.

Justin Harrison claimed the men?s 800 meter run with a time of 1:53.92 and Luis Luna finished third (second in his heat) in 1:56.25.

Senior Rachel Kohler finished first in the women?s high jump with a leap of 5-7, while Lindsey Moody finished seventh with a 5-3.

Kentucky returns to action March 30-31 when it travels to Atlanta to participate in the Yellow Jacket Invitational. Complete results and a recap of that action will be available at ukathletics.com.
