For the 16th-straight year, Kentucky advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, this time with a 67-58 win over Villanova Friday night in Chicago?s United Center. The eighth-seeded Wildcats? second-round opponent is top-seeded and Big 12 Champion Kansas. Game time is 4:00 CT.
Kentucky is 19-5 all-time against Kansas, although the Jayhawks have defeated the Wildcats in each of the last two regular seasons. Last year?s 73-46 KU win in Lawrence was Kentucky?s worst loss under Tubby Smith.
UK is 1-0 against Kansas in NCAA Tournament play, downing the sixth-seeded Jayhawks 92-88 in overtime in the second round of the 1999 tournament. The Cats are also 1-0 against KU in the United Center, having defeated the Jayhawks in the 1998-99 Great Eight, 63-45. Kentucky has won seven national championships and been to 13 Final Fours, 31 Elite Eights and 40 Sweet 16s.
