LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky rifle team garnered several postseason honors, as Tom Csenge, Jen Pason, Amy Sowash, and Andrew Roland all tallied Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association All-American accolades, the organization announced.
?I am very proud of the whole team for the success of the year and especially to the five who won All-American awards,? Kentucky head coach Harry Mullins said. ?This team achieved several milestones during the season and the effort, dedication, and hard work supplied by these student-athletes made that all possible.?
Csenge earned first-team recognition in smallbore, while racking up honorable mention accolades in air rifle. Pason, the 2007 Great American Rifle Conference Rookie of the Year, received first-team recognition in smallbore and second-team honors in air rifle. Kentucky senior co-captain Amy Sowash also found her name on the All-America lists, reeling in second-team honors in air rifle and honorable mention in smallbore. Roland, a sophomore, notched second-team smallbore honors.
In 2006, Sowash garnered All-America honors in both smallbore and air rifle and Roland tallied the honor in smallbore. Since 1991, Kentucky has racked up 71 All-America honors. The award is given to the top-10 shooters in the nation in each respective gun, air rifle and smallbore.
Kentucky completed one of the best year?s in Wildcat rifle history in 2007, going undefeated in GARC action to claim the regular-season crown. UK also dominated the GARC Championships to pull in the Conference Championship title. Kentucky finished in fourth place at the NCAA Championships last Saturday.
?This was an absolute blast to coach this team this past season,? Mullins said. ?They dictated the success that the team would achieve with an unparalleled work ethic. I am happy for the four shooters who earned awards and I am very happy for the entire team. Now we need to get back to work and start improving for next season.?
