The Kentucky men?s golf team slipped five spots today, Mar. 11, at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship. The Wildcats recorded a second-round score of 311 at Southern Highlands Golf club in Las Vegas to bring its two-day total to 605 (294-311) to rank them 14th in the team standings.
Georgia took over the top spot and leads the 15-team field with a score of 584 (285-299). UCLA dropped to second with a total of 591 (291-300), followed by No. 1 Florida who is third with a score of 591 (291-300). Arizona and Texas A&M have posted identical scores over the first two days to tie for fourth in the standings with totals of 592 (293-299).
Roberto Castro (Ga. Tech), Billy Horschel (Florida), Lucas Lee (UCLA) and Martin Miller (Texas A&M) are all in a four-way tie for the individual lead with two-round scores of 141.
Alex Volpenhein leads the Wildcats and is tied for 10th overall after firing a second-round 75. The freshman recorded an eagle on the third hole and followed that with three straight birdies on the front nine. Volpenhein?s two-round total stands at 145 (70-75). Sophomore Andy Winings shot 79 (+7) in the second round to drop to 41st overall with a score of 152 (73-79). Juniors Cale Barr and Brad Doster are each tied for 56th with scores of 154. Barr shot a second-round 80, while Doster matched his first-round effort with a 77 on the second day of play. Senior Andrew Stephens rounds out the Kentucky scorecards with a two-day total of 164 after carding an 83 on Saturday afternoon.
The tournament wraps up on Sunday, Mar. 11, with the third and final round. Play is set to begin at 11 a.m. ET.
