LEXINGTON ? The Kentucky gymnastics team has added Phylicia Reshard of West Chester, Ohio, to its 2008 recruiting class, it was announced by Wildcat head coach Mo Mitchell on Tuesday.
?Phylicia has some strong assets that she will bring to this team,? Mitchell said. ?She is a strong vaulter and tumbler. I think her spirit and work ethic will work well with the direction our program is going.
?Phylicia has attributes that will make her a valuable asset to this team off the mat. She is a good student, she brings along with her gymnastics great academics. We really embrace that quality that she brings to the team.?
Reshard competes at Level 10 for Gym-Nation in Mason, Ohio, for coaches Terry Russell and Patrick Jordan. She was a Level 10 national qualifier in 2003 and a 2002 qualifier at Level 9. That year as a freshman, she placed second on vault with a 9.450, ninth on beam with a 9.2 en route to a third-place finish in the all-around.
Away from the gym, Reshard is the quintessential student-athlete. She is a four-year honor roll member and a member of the National Honor Society. She?s twice been named to the Who?s Who of American High School Students and was selected for the National Music Honors Society in both 2004 and 2005. Each of the past two years she has been chosen as the Lakota West High School VIP.
Reshard is currently a senior at Lakota West and is the daughter of Leroy and Audrey Reshard. Her sister, Shawna, is a second year medical student at the University of Cincinnati.
Reshard joins Colleen Williams as the second member of UK?s 2008 recruiting class.
