LEXINGTON ? The Kentucky gymnastics team set season highs on the floor and vault to finish third in a quad meet at Ohio State on Sunday afternoon, behind the 18th-ranked Buckeyes and No. 21 West Virginia, while besting George Washington.
The Wildcats scored a 194.150 overall ? topping the 194 plateau for the third time in four meets ? but it wasn?t enough to knock off host OSU, which won the meet with a 195.825. The Mountaineers, who UK beat earlier this season, took second with a 194.350. George Washington rounded out the meet with a 189.550.
Individually, Krystle Cook had an outstanding meet, winning titles on both vault and floor. Her 9.925 on vault was a season best and matched freshman Emilie Rymer?s score for the vault crown. The two paced a UK lineup that scored a 49.200, the best score for the Wildcats in the event since the 2003 season.
Rymer had the best meet of her young career, scoring a 39.225 in the all-around, placing second to only Maalika Moore-Thomas for the meet championship. Rymer?s total included a 9.8 on the bars as well as a 9.85 on floor, one of four 9.85s or better for the UK on the floor.
Led by Cook and Heather Hite?s matching 9.9s, UK posted a season best 49.250 on the event, the second best score under fourth-year head coach Mo Mitchell and sixth best in school history. Hillary Ferguson was just behind the two with a 9.875.
The title for Cook marked her first multi-title meet of the season and gave her six this year. Hite won her second floor crown of the season. Hite also took second on beam
Kentucky returns to action on Saturday with another quad meet, this time hosted by Texas Women?s University and featuring Bowling Green and Southeast Missouri State.
