AMES, Iowa – Several Kentucky track and field athletes competed and recorded personal-best marks Friday on the opening day of the Iowa State Classic in the Lied Recreation Athletic Facility at Ames, Iowa.

Pole vaulter Maggie Tincher (Winfield, W.Va.) notched a personal best in her event with a mark of 11-7.75 to finish seventh. Sprinter Brandon Austin (Paducah, Ky.) notched a lifetime personal-best time (indoor or outdoor) of 21.84 in the men?s 200-meter dash.

Sophomore Mikel Thomas (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who last weekend set the school record for the men?s 60-meter hurdles, continued to post an impressive score in the event with an 8.11. Thomas advances to Saturday?s semifinal round as one of the top eight qualifiers in the preliminaries. Thrower Andy Fryman (Maysville, Ky.) tossed a 56-3.25 in the weight throw.

The teams are back in action tomorrow beginning at 10:25 a.m. EST. In addition, the distance and mid-distance squads are competing in the Husky Classic in Seattle beginning at 11:30 a.m. EST. Live stats for the Husky Classic will be available at ukathletics.com
