LEXINGTON ? The 20th-ranked Kentucky women?s tennis begins a four-game road swing on Friday when it travels to Cambridge, Mass., to square off against No. 26 Harvard 9 a.m.
The Wildcats are 4-0 on the season with a win over 60th-ranked Marshall highlighting the perfection. The Crimson, four-time defending Ivy Group champions, is opening its season against UK and follows against Boston University later in the day.
?This will be a tough match for us against a very good opponent,? Kentucky head coach Carlos Drada said. ?We?ve been preparing well and I think our team is ready to compete. It should be a great college tennis match.?
Kentucky is led by seniors Kim Coventry and Joelle Schwenk, who form the nation?s third-ranked doubles tandem. Schwenk is also ranked in singles at No. 60. The pair anchors a formidable doubles line up that has claimed the crucial point in all for matches this year.
The Wildcats also have young talent lower in the line up in the form of sophomore Carolina Escamilla and freshman Sarah Woestmann, who are a combined 8-0 on the year. Woestmann has won her last two matches 6-0, 6-0 and dropped just four games in her last seven sets overall.
Harvard is led by Beier Ko, ranked 16th nationally, and Lena Litvak, who is ranked 80th.
Following Friday?s contest, UK travels to another Ivy Group school, Brown on Saturday. The road swing ends after matches against rivals Indiana and Louisville on Feb. 18 and 20, respectively.
The two teams have met just once before, a 4-3 Harvard victory at the 2004 ITA National Indoor Championships.
