LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky track and field squads are back in action this weekend, Feb. 9-10, as split squads travel to both the Iowa State Classic and the Husky Classic. The majority of the team will be visiting Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Classic, while UK?s distance and mid-distance runners head west to Seattle.

?These are our final tune-ups before the SEC Championships in two weeks,? UK head coach Don Weber said. ?We hope to see some improved performances. We hope that our athletes will perform at a level that will put them in a better position to prepare and qualify for the NCAA Championships. Hopefully we will see some very strong performances and things will begin falling into place as we near the end of the indoor season.?

Kentucky?s sprinters, jumpers and throwers will compete at the 16th-annual Iowa State Classic in the Lied Recreation Athletic Facility. Activities get underway at 2:30 p.m. EST on Friday and continue at 10:25 a.m. EST on Saturday. Southeastern Conference foes Alabama and Ole Miss also will be competing in the event.

The distance and mid-distance runners will be participating in one of the nation?s premier indoor events at the sixth-annual Husky Classic. More than 1,100 athletes representing 128 teams travel to the Dempsey Indoor Center, which is widely known for having one of the fastest tracks in the country. Live results of the Husky Classic will be available at GoHuskies.com. The action begins at 11:30 a.m. EST on Saturday. Last year’s Husky Classic produced two world-leading marks and a stunning 26 marks that, at the time, were among the world’s top-10 in their events.

According to Trackwire?s Dandy Dozen, which ranks the top individuals in each event around the nation, has UK thrower Ashley Muffet (North Canton, Ohio) ranked fourth in the nation in the shot put.
