TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Led by the individual performances of T.J. Harris, Leslie Angeli, and Ashley Jackson the Kentucky rifle team soundly defeated Rose-Hulman 4555-4374, in competition held Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind.
“I was very proud of the team today, I really think they shot well,” Kentucky head coach Harry Mullins said. “As a group they worked very well together and had very similar performances. We really need to work on some of our scores in kneeling but we can just get back on the range this next week and work out some bugs and kinks.”
Kentucky traveled the quartet of Jake Savitts, Harris, Angeli, and Jackson to face off with the Engineers and left behind several veteran performers, including team anchors Amy Sowash, Thomas Csenge, and Jen Pason.
Jackson led the way for the squad, posting a match-high individual score of 1152, including a 587 air rifle score. Harris followed in second place with an 1144 total and Angeli tallied a personal-best 578 air rifle score.
Kentucky, which earlier in January claimed the Great American Rifle Conference regular season Championship, edged Rose-Hulman in both smallbore (2242-2166) and air rifle (2313-2208) in a balanced performance that saw all four of the Wildcat shooters finish in the top-five.
“Overall, I was very happy with the consistency of the team,” Mullins said. “They worked very hard and did not give in to frustrations at the times when they could have. All of the shooters we took to the match learned a lot about themselves and should be very proud of the way they represented UK.”
The match concludes regular-season action for the Wildcats, who now turn their attention to preparation for the NCAA Qualifiers (Feb. 11) and the GARC Championships (Feb. 24-25).
