LEXINGTON, Ky.?After placing second and third on the three-meter in Friday?s opening night of the 2007 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships, senior Taryn Ignacio and junior Kari Retrum will carry the top seeds going into day two of finals.
Ignacio led the field with a 300.95 score and Retrum edged Tennessee?s Lauren Leroy for the opportunity to dive seventh. Ignacio will dive in the coveted last position in tonight?s finals for the second evening in a row. Retrum posted a score of 296.09, while Leroy had a 292.45.
Kentucky, Auburn and LSU each had two women make the cut for the final event tonight. Also joining the field is South Carolina?s Lyndsey Havens.
On the men?s side, UK sophomore Justin Smith placed fifth in the preliminary round advancing him to the finals of the men?s three-meter event. Smith scored a career-high 332.20 to guide him into the final event tonight. Sophomore Dan Cuilla placed 15th with a score of 278.30.
Auburn put four divers in the finals for the second night in row. Headlining the Tigers? quartet is top-point getter Steven Segerlin with 397.45 points. Joining the field is one diver from Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
All general admission tickets for the three-day diving session are available. The cost for a full day (two sessions) for the event is $15. Preliminary competition on Friday and Saturday begins at 11 a.m., while the finals events begin at 6 p.m. On Sunday, preliminary rounds will kick off at 11 a.m., with the finals set to begin at 2:30.
Approximately less than 100 tickets are available for the four day swimming sessions. Deck and bleacher tickets will be available for each day and will cost $20 for two sessions (one day of competition). Wed., Feb 7, preliminary heats will begin at noon with finals set to begin at 6 that night. Thursday-Saturday preliminary events begin at 10 a.m., with the finals taking place at 6.
