LEXINGTON, Ky.– Junior Heather Bradford was named the Southeastern Conference Female Swimmer of the Week for the period Jan. 22-29, as announced today by the league offices.
Bradford was instrumental in the Wildcats? dominating 105-81, victory over Cincinnati on Friday. The Groveport, Ohio, native notched a win in the 100-butterfly in a time of 55.18, a qualifying time for the NCAA ?B? standard. The time also became a new Cincinnati Keating Aquatics Center record.
She also swam the first leg of the winning 200-free relay team that also set a NCAA ?B? standard time.
This is the first time in her career that Bradford has been recognized by the conference. She is a six time All-America honorable mention selection and is among the top-10 in Kentucky varsity records in three events (50-free, 100-free and 100-fly).
Bradford?s nomination comes on the heels of the final week of regular season competition. The Lady Wildcats concluded the season with a 5-3 dual meet record.
This is the second time this season that a UK female has been recognized, as senior Joey Brown was tabbed the SEC Female Diver of the Week on Jan. 17.
Next up for Kentucky are the SEC Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by UK and the Lancaster Aquatic Center. Diving competition begins on Friday, Feb. 2, with swimming to begin on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
