LEXINGTON, Ky.? The 33rd-ranked University of Kentucky men?s tennis team begins the 2007 season with a pair of opening day dual matches on Sunday at the Hilary J. Bonne Tennis Center.

The Wildcats will square off with UNC-Greensboro at 1 p.m. EST, and then meet the Toledo Rockets for the second match to begin at 5 p.m.

Kentucky is led by Coach Dennis Emery who enters his 25th season at the helm of one of the most storied programs at UK. Emery has led his squad to the NCAA tournament for 13 consecutive seasons and ranks 10th among active coaches on the career winning list.

Junior Marcus Sundh and sophomore Bruno Agostinelli headline the returning class for the Wildcats from a season ago. Sundh has quietly put together back-to-back 20 win seasons in singles competition. Agostinelli was tabbed the 2006 SEC Freshman of the Year, but will enter this season out of the starting lineup. Agostinelli suffered a foot injury and will miss the opening 4-6 weeks of the season.

Transfers senior Peter Bjork (Colorado) and junior Will Ward (Baylor) will look to help fill the void of departing seniors Alex Hume and Nate Emge. Bjork pieced together a 27 win season in one of the Buffalos? most successful seasons in school history. Ward was a major contributor to the Bears? Final Four run in the NCAA tournament in 2006.

Freshmen Roman Ogarkov and Jorge Jorge joined the team in January 2007 and Emery will look for two of his rookies to have an immediate impact.

Returning players Shane Collins, Kenny Hodge and Kyle Virgin will all also look to break into the starting lineup and continue to better their collegiate careers. Freshman Brian Dredge is the final player looking for action within the deep 2007 squad.
