LEXINGTON, KY ? Following a Cinderella season, the Kentucky women?s soccer team will be honored during halftime of the Kentucky-Indiana basketball game Saturday at Rupp Arena.
Picked by league coaches to finish no better than fifth in the Southeastern Conference?s East division, the Wildcats put together a run to remember at the end of the year to finish second overall in the league and earn the second seed at the SEC Tournament in Orange Beach, Alabama.
The Wildcats then rode that momentum and claimed its second SEC Tournament championship going through the likes of Ole Miss, 20th ranked Tennessee and 12th ranked Florida in the championship game.
Head coach Warren Lipka collected SEC Coach of the Year honors in the process while senior goalie Anne Ogundele and freshman forward Giuleana Lopez were named All-SEC. Ogundele was also named third team All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Kentucky returns 10 starters from this year?s squad losing Ogundele to graduation.
