Kentucky?s Jared Carter, who missed the first five games of the season with a dislocated right shoulder, re-injured that shoulder at a Thursday morning practice and will undergo season-ending reconstructive surgery. His recovery is expected to take six months.

UK will seek a medical redshirt for the 7-2 Georgetown, Ky., native.

Carter originally dislocated his shoulder in mid-November. He returned to action Nov. 28 and had 20 minutes in three games this season, averaging 2.3 rebounds and 0.3 points per game. Thursday morning, during five-on-five drills at Memorial Coliseum, Carter?s shoulder became dislocated again while he battled for a rebound.

?I?m disappointed for Jared, because I know how hard he?s worked,? head coach Tubby Smith said. ?But this will allow him plenty of time to heal from the surgery and strengthen those muscles before next season.?

Kentucky hosts Indiana Saturday at noon at Rupp Arena. The game is being televised nationally by CBS.
