Woodyard, Tamme, Woodson, Burton, Aitcheson Selected
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Linebacker Wesley Woodyard, tight end Jacob Tamme, quarterback Andre’ Woodson, wide receiver Keenan Burton, and offensive tackle Michael Aitcheson have been named to the All-Southeastern Conference Team selected by the SEC coaches.
Woodyard and Tamme were first-team picks while Woodson, Burton, and Aitcheson were named to the second team.
Woodyard (LaGrange, Ga.) made 110 tackles on the season, ranking second in the league in tackles per game. He also had eight tackles for loss, one quarterback sack, three fumbles caused, two fumble recoveries, one interception, and three pass breakups.
Tamme (Danville, Ky.) leads the league’s tight ends with 28 catches, good for 327 yards and one touchdown. He had a career-high seven receptions for 120 yards in the regular-season finale at Tennessee.
Not even knowing at the start of preseason practice if he was going to be the starting quarterback, Woodson (Radcliff, Ky.) won the job in August and has had a tremendous season. He has thrown for 3,216 yards and 28 touchdowns, leading the SEC in passing yardage, total offense, and TD passes. His touchdown-to-interception ratio of 28-to-7 is the best in the league. His career interception ratio is the lowest in SEC history (min. 400 attempts).
Burton (Louisville, Ky.), an outstanding wide receiver and kickoff returner, leads the SEC and is sixth nationally in all-purpose yardage with 149.8 yards per game. He has caught 72 passes for 1,006 yards and a league-high 12 touchdowns this year. He is only the third player in school history, joining Craig Yeast and James Whalen, to reach the 1,000-yard receiving mark in a season. He is third in the league in kickoff returns with a 24.9-yard average.
Aitcheson (Miami, Fla.) has helped lead the Wildcat offensive line from his right tackle position. He has started 23 consecutive games. As a team, Kentucky leads the league in passing offense and is fifth in scoring.
Kentucky has won seven games this season and will take on Clemson in the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl on Dec. 29.
