LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The Kentucky rifle team remained unbeaten with a win over national power Nebraska 4652-4631, Friday at Barker Hall.
“It is huge for us to start it off 3-0 in conference,? Kentucky head coach Harry Mullins said. ?The whole team worked hard and got the good outcome. I am happy with the performance by the team as a whole but we can get better numbers and need to strive for that.?
The Wildcats defeated the Huskers 2307-2303 in smallbore and 2345-2348 in air rifle. Individually, Kentucky was led by freshman Jen Pason, who continued her hot shooting by capturing the smallbore and air rifle individual titles.
Kentucky will return to action Sunday when they host West Virginia at Barker Hall. The Mountaineers finished 12th in the NCAA Championships a year ago.
?Performance wise it was a lot of hard work and I think that the team displayed a lot of heart,? Mullins said. ?Jen Pason shot well and was the only one that broke 580 in smallbore. She won a three-way tiebreaker to capture the individual title in air rifle with a 588, which was very encouraging.?
