LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The Kentucky track and field teams will host two regular-season home meets and the 2007 Southeastern Conference Championships to highlight the Wildcats? 2007 indoor schedule, head coach Don Weber announced Wednesday.
The Wildcats begin the season with a pair of home meets in the annual Kentucky Invitational and the Rod McCravy Memorial. The two-day Kentucky Invitational will take place Jan. 12-13 and the McCravy Memorial will be Jan. 19-20.
Kentucky will then hit the road Feb. 2-3 traveling to New York City to participate in the New Balance Collegiate Invitational before participating in the Iowa State Classic Feb. 9-10 in Ames, Iowa. Select athletes will travel to the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., on Feb. 10.
Kentucky will host the SEC Championships Feb. 23-25 in the Nutter Field House. It will mark the fourth time (1996, 2001, 2005) in the history of the facility that the Wildcats have hosted the prestigious SEC Indoor meet.
?The SEC track meet is universally recognized as the best college conference competition in the country and it is every year,? Weber said. ?There will be a tremendous amount of national attention paid to the SEC meet. One of the great things about having the SEC meet at the University of Kentucky is the oversized track and the ability of some of the very best people in the country to run very, very fast on our track. National rankings will be impacted by us hosting the conference meet here. It?s just exciting to be involved in having that great of a competition at our place.?
The NCAA Championships will be held March 9-10 in Fayetteville, Ark., hosted by the University of Arkansas.
