LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The Blue squad took a 2-1 series advantage in game three of the Kentucky Fall World Series, topping the Black squad 3-1 on a picture-perfect Monday afternoon at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
The Blue team took an early advantage, plating one run in the bottom of the first. Lead-off hitter Ryan Wilkes reached on a single through the right side of the infield and advanced to second on a Brian Spear ground out. The next batter, slugger Collin Cowgill, drove in Wilkes with a single to left-center field to make it 1-0.
The Black squad pushed its one run across the plate in the top of the sixth inning to even the game 1-1. Freshman catcher Brian Suerdick reached on a double down the right-field line and senior infielder Mike Brown drove him in with a single just out of reach of shortstop Ryan Wilkes.
Facing a tie ballgame in the bottom of the sixth, the Blue squad rallied, as Kevin Bishop reached on a single and Cowgill drew a walk. Freshman outfielder Bryan Rose drove in Bishop and Cowgill with a two-out two RBI single to win the game 3-1.
Redshirt freshman Chris Craycraft earned the win, tossing the final two innings of the seven-inning contest. Freshman Jason Chowning, a right-hander from Louisville, took the loss.
The Fall World Series resumes Tuesday afternoon, 3 p.m. at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
