Wide receiver/kick returner Keenan Burton was named Southeastern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week by the league office for his performance in Saturday?s 34-31 win at Mississippi State.
Burton played an important role in the Wildcats? victory over the Bulldogs. With the game tied at halftime, Burton opened the second half with a 47-yard kickoff return into MSU territory. UK scored the go-ahead touchdown on that possession, claiming a lead that was never relinquished. Later in the third quarter, he had a 46-yard kickoff return that set up a field goal.
On offense he caught five passes for 81 yards and tied his career high with two touchdown receptions. He totaled 188 all-purpose yards during the game. For the season, he leads the SEC in all-purpose yardage with 139.1 yards per game.
?I think we won the battle of the kicking games, and I think that was really the difference in the game,? Kentucky coach Rich Brooks said after the contest.
This is the first time that Burton has won an SEC Player of the Week honor and the second UK player to do so this season. Quarterback Andre? Woodson was the Offensive Player of the Week following the win over Ole Miss.
