WILLIAMSBURG, Va. ? The University of Kentucky men?s golf team climbed three spots today, Oct. 3, and is now ninth at the PING Preview at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va. The Wildcats fired a second-round 282 to bring their two-day total to 574 (292-282). Oklahoma State (282-280) and Florida (281-281) are tied for the lead with identical scores of 562.
Texas A&M is tied with UNLV for third place with scores of 563, while first-round leader Georgia slipped four spots and is in fifth place with a two-day total of 568.
Freshman Alex Volpenhein continues to lead the Wildcats and is tied for 10th overall after firing a 70 for the second straight day to bring his total to 140 (70-70). Junior Brad Doster has moved into the top 15 and is tied for 13th after posting an even-par 70 in the second round. Doster stands one stroke behind Volpenhein at 141 (71-70) through two rounds of play. Sophomore Andy Winings also shot even par to stand tied for 20th with a total of 143 (73-70). Senior Andrew Stephens and freshman Brian Belden round out the scoring for the Wildcats with scores of 150 (78-72) and 160 (79-81), respectively.
The tournament wraps up tomorrow, Oct. 4, with the third and final round.
