LEXINGTON ? With an undefeated 5-0-1 record and the nation?s top scoring offense, the Kentucky soccer team has climbed to No. 14 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, it was announced Tuesday.
The Wildcats jumped up six spots from No. 20 after drilling Georgetown College, 8-0, and UNC-Asheville, 5-0. The current ranking matches the highest ever for UK, which previously held down a No. 14 ranking in a Soccer America poll.
Led by senior Riley O?Neill, the nation?s top goal scorer, Kentucky has had the country?s most explosive offense, averaging 3.67 goals per game. On the other end of the field, UK has been stingy, giving up a miniscule 0.32 goals per outing, 11th best nationally. The Wildcats are the only team in the nation to rank in the top 15 in both scoring offense and defense.
Kentucky tests its latest ranking on Wednesday when it welcomes Michigan to the UK Soccer Complex for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
