The Kentucky football team had morning and afternoon practices Tuesday at the Nutter Training Facility, enjoying the day?s relatively cooler temperatures. Here are some general observations and comments from Coach Rich Brooks following the workouts:

?We?re continuing to learn, get a lot of reps (repetitions),? Brooks said of his current practice agenda. ?We?re getting evaluations of guys and how they perform in the first, second and third units. When school starts (Aug. 23) is when we?ll really narrow it down (to the players who are expected to see the most playing time vs. Louisville).?

Offensive guard Micah Jones continues to be sidelined by a back injury, but hopes to return to practice by Saturday.

Asked if positions are being settled in the offensive line, Brooks said, ?It?s clearly competitive, as are a lot of other positions on the team. Again, we?ll try to narrow that down mid-to-late next week.?

Brooks said that junior-college defensive end J. D. Craigman had returned to practice after sustaining a shoulder injury in Saturday?s scrimmage. ?J. D. does some good things and there?s some things he needs to learn. This is just his third year of football,? Brooks said. The 25-year-old Craigman played basketball in high school and did not take up football until two years ago at Mendocino College.
