IRVINE, Calif.?Kentucky swimmer Jenny Bradford and former swimmer Daniel Farnham both advanced to the finals in the 50-meter freestyle at the 2006 ConocoPhillips National Championships in Irvine, Calif., Thursday.

Bradford finished in a tie for 13th place after swimming in a time of 26.14. The time qualified her as one of the top 24 swimmers who will compete in tonight?s finals. The rising junior placed sixth in her heat and was tied for ninth place after 12 heats. There were 13 heats in all, and 103 swimmers competed in the event.

The Groveport, Ohio native?s career best time in the 50-free is 25.92, a mark she will attempt to beat tonight. Kara Lynn Joyce earned the best time of the preliminary round swimming in 25.29.

Farnham captured 15th place out of 75 swimmers with a time of 23.21, a new personal best. The recent UK graduate finished fifth in his heat and held ninth place after nine heats. After the final heat of competition, Farnham still found his name among the 24 to advance to tonight?s finals.

Cullen Jones finished the preliminary round with the best time after swimming in 22.19.

?We?re all real excited for both Daniel and Jenny,? said UK Assistant Coach Margo Lynch. ?They were a little off of their times, but hopefully they?ll swim even better tonight and make one of the teams.?

The National Championships serve as the selection meet for five international meets. Chosen top performers will be added to one or more of the following events: 2006 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships, 2007 FINA World Championships, 2007 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, 2007 World University Games and 2007 Pan American Games.
