DES MOINES, Iowa ? Kentucky sophomore Brad Frederick led his U-19 club team, Javanon SC, to the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship over the weekend.

Frederick anchored a rock solid defense that dominated opponents en route to the Region II Championship, which qualified the team for the four-team national tournament.

Once at nationals, Javanon posted a 2-1 record in pool play to earn a berth in the championship game against Arsenal FC, the team that it lost to. However, the final was different as Javanon jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead and held on even after its goalkeeper was red carded and the team played a man down in the second half.

In 2003, Frederick?s Javanon team placed fourth in the national championships when it was U-16. The Javanon ?87 team is now the most successful in state history.
