University of Kentucky incoming freshman Molly Johnson has been named to the 2006 Louisville Slugger/NFCA High School All-America Second Team. The shortstop/catcher batted .500 with 11 home runs, eight doubles, five triples and 67 RBIs as a senior at Sabino High School in Tucson, Ariz.
?We are so excited for Molly. This is a great honor for someone who had an excellent high school career,? said third-year head coach Eileen Schmidt. ?We are looking forward to the start of the year and having her and the rest of this great incoming freshman class on the field in Kentucky blue.?
Johnson, a shortstop and catcher, was a four-year starter at Sabino HS. She has been named the team?s defensive Most Valuable Player the past three years and committed just two errors as a junior. Johnson batted .435, posted a .674 slugging percentage and recorded 32 RBI that same year.
Johnson earned First Team All-State honors as a junior as Sabino won the AAAA state championship. She was also named All-Arizona and first team All-Southern Arizona and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Johnson joins fellow signees Jennifer Young, Amber Matousek, Natalie Smith and Destinee Mordecai who will all join the Wildcats lineup during the 2006-07 season.
