LEXINGTON, Ky.? Kentucky women?s golfers Beth Felts and Katie Johnson qualified for the United States Amateur Championship on Monday, July 10. The duo advanced to the championship after shooting rounds of 75 and 74 respectively during the U.S. Amateur Qualifying Round at the Cincinnati Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Johnson, a Lexington native and Paul Dunbar graduate is a rising senior for the Wildcats. Felts is a rising junior from Chattanooga, Tenn.
The U.S. Amateur Championship will be contested at the esteemed Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Org., August 7-13. The 106th Championship will be held on the Witch Hollow Course, one of America?s top-rated private courses.
This is the sixth time in 10 years the course will host the Women?s Championship. Witch Hollow features rolling hills, tranquil meadows and pastoral wetlands to challenge the nation?s top amateurs.
With Johnson and Felts? qualification for the tournament it marks the second consecutive summer a pair of Wildcats played at the Cincinnati Country Club to qualify for the U.S. Amateur Championship. Emily Culbertson and Elizabeth Dotson were the last duo to accomplish the feat. In addition, UK?s Ali Kicklighter also qualified for the Championship out of the Hammock Creek Golf Club in Palm City, Fla., in 2005.
