LEXINGTON ? Kentucky sophomore Collin Cowgill has been named a second-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America, it was announced Tuesday.
Cowgill, a Lexington native, becomes the sixth Academic All-American in school history and the first Wildcat to earn the honor since Andy Green in 2000. The communications major is just the second UK player to be named an Academic All-American since 1990.
UK?s most improved offensive player this season, Cowgill has started each of the Wildcats? 57 games this year. He is batting .308 with 16 home runs and 58 RBI. He is second on the team in RBIs and runs scored. He has also has been flawless in the field having not committed an error in 86 chances this year.
Batting second in the order, he has been vital to UK?s potent offensive attack en route to the team?s first SEC Championship. The Wildcats also earned a No. 1 seed in an NCAA Regional that they will be hosting this weekend.
