LEXINGTON ? Kentucky?s Ryan Strieby and John Cohen, already honored as the top player and coach in the Southeastern Conference, racked up more honors on Monday from the College Baseball Foundation, which released its National Coaches of the Year and All-America team.

Strieby, a junior, led the SEC during the regular season in RBIs (75), on-base percentage (.474), slugging percentage (.718) and doubles (21), while ranking third in home runs (20) and batting .340 to earn SEC Player of the Year honors. He is the first Wildcat to win the award and also garnered first-team All-SEC honors at first base, the first UK player to be named to the first team since 1997.

It is the first time a UK player has been named an All-American since catcher John Wilson was in 1999.

Cohen was one of four coaches honored by the foundation, joining Rice?s Wayne Graham, Hawaii?s Mike Trapasso and Virginia?s Brian O?Connor. He led UK (42-15) from worst-to-first in the Southeastern Conference, it marked the first time in school history that a Kentucky baseball coach has been named league coach of the year.

Personally, it was his third conference coach of the year honor, having taken home Southland Conference honors in 1998 and 2001. The Cat?s are headed to their first NCAA appearance since 1993.

Strieby is also a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award, which is awarded to the nation?s top player by the College Baseball Foundation on July 3.
