LEXINGTON ? Brian Jeroloman hit two home runs and drove in five as No. 19 Florida scored a 6-4 victory to even the series with 23rd-ranked Kentucky on Saturday night at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
The rubber match of the three-game set is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday. The Wildcats send the Southeastern Conference leader in earned-run average, Greg Dombrowski (5-1, 1.65) to the mound. The Gators have yet to name a starter.
Jeroloman did all his damage in the first two innings UK starter Craig Snipp staked Florida (to a six-run lead. In the first Jeroloman and Matt LaPorta combined for back-to-back solo home runs and a 2-0 advantage.
In the second, a Michael Bertram error extended the inning for the Gators and Jeroloman made the Wildcats pay with a towering three-run shot. His five RBIs are a career high.
Kentucky (24-8, 6-5 SEC) chipped into the lead with a two-run second on Sean Coughlin?s two-run home run. The shot plated Ryan Strieby, who led off the inning with a single.
In the third, Coughlin struck again with a two-out, two-run double to cut the lead to 6-4. Coughlin added two more singles while setting career highs in hits and RBIs with four each.
Kentucky had a chance to tie it in the fifth when it loaded the bases with one out. However, John Shelby grounded into a tailor-made 6-4-3 double play to end the threat.
Clinging to their 6-4 lead in the eighth, Florida threatened to blow the game open by loading the bases with nobody out. However, Gavin Dickey fouled out and Snipp induced an inning-ending double play to keep UK within striking distance.
Coughlin responded with a leadoff single in the home half of the inning and took second on a one-out walk by Michael Bertram. However, Shaun Lehmann and Ryan Wilkes struck out to end the inning.
Both pitchers tossed complete games with Bryan Augenstein earning his SEC-leading seventh win. He struck out nine in his third complete game of the year.
Snipp took the loss, his second in a row, despite allowing only two earned runs. He fanned seven and walked just one.
