LEXINGTON, Ky. ? Sophomore Kentucky golfer Beth Felts (Chattanooga, Tenn.) was named the Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week, the league office in Birmingham, Ala., announced Wednesday. It marked the first time that a UK golfer has won the award since it was instituted in the spring of 2000.
Felts helped lead the Wildcats to the Lady Seahawk Invitational title, the Cats? first tournament championship of the season, on Tuesday. Individually, she finished the event in a tie for second place after carding a three-round total of 220 (71-75-74). Felts fired her second-best round of the season with a 71 on the event’s opening 18 holes.
?I am so excited for Beth,? UK head coach Stephanie Barker said. ?She has been working so hard all year and has been really close to playing great golf all year long. It was so nice to see it all come together for her this weekend. She was in contention the whole tournament, and it was a great learning experience that she will carry with her.?
Felts charted her second top-10 finish of the season in the Lady Seahawk Invitational, finishing two strokes behind the tournament’s individual medalist. She also finished tied for seventh in the Wildcat Fall Invitational.
Felts and the Wildcats next compete April 3-4 when they travel to Stockbridge, Ga., to participate in the John Kirk/Lady Panther Invitational hosted by Georgia State University. The tournament will mark the final regular-season event for UK, which will compete in the SEC Championships April 14-16 in Nashville.
