The University of Kentucky women?s soccer team has been busy off the field recently, giving back to the community that gives them so much support on the field.
The Wildcats visited the VA Hospital on the UK campus where they spent time with patients and their loved ones. The Cats? attendance was part of the National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans week. The ladies got the chance to visit with veterans of all ages, including one soldier who recently returned to the United States after breaking his back in Iraq.
The Cats also made a trip to the UK Children?s Hospital where they brought smiles by playing bingo, soccer and simply spending time with these young patients.
Team members also put their cooking skills to good use with a visit to the Ronald McDonald House. The Cats baked dozens of cookies for parents and family members who are living at the house while their children are seeking medical attention in Lexington hospitals.
?I think it?s important that we establish ourselves in the community,? said head coach Warren Lipka. ?These young ladies are doing an outstanding job of getting out and getting involved.?
