AMES, Iowa ? The University of Kentucky track and field squads completed day one at the Iowa State Classic late Friday night. Senior Allison Grace came away with a personal-best and NCAA provisional mark in the 5,000 meters, while the women?s distance medley relay placed first.
Grace placed seventh and set a new indoor personal-best in the 5,000 meters with an NCAA provisional mark of 16:43.09. Grace?s time moves her from 10th to sixth all-time at UK. Seven runners in the race went below the provisional mark.
The Kentucky women?s distance medley relay team came away with a first place performance (11:30.45) despite running the event for the first time this season. The men?s squad, also running for the first time this spring, placed third in the DMR in a time of 9:47.97.
Ashley Trimble advanced to tomorrow?s semifinals in the 60 meter hurdles with a season-best 8.69. Tom Masthay also advanced to tomorrow?s semifinals with a season-best 8.16 (8.15, PR) in the 60 hurdles.
Freshman Gordon McKenzie (10th, 21.61) led the UK men in the 200, while senior Kenya Patton (11th, 24.36) paced the women?s squad.
The remainder of the UK squad continue action tomorrow along with those who advanced to the semifinals and finals. Next weekend, the Cats will take off as they prepare for the SEC Championships, Feb. 27-28, at host University of Florida.
