The No. 21 Kentucky men?s tennis team completed the South Florida Spring Invitational Sunday by recording three victories against Florida A&M at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts in Tampa, Fla. The Cats will begin match play on Wednesday at home when they take on Austin Peay and Butler at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center.
The Cats were led by sophomore Marcus Sundh who notched his third singles victory of the tournament. The Stockholm, Sweden, native defeated FAMU?s Clifford Malivert in three sets. Sundh dropped his first set 3-6, before coming back to convincingly win the next two 6-1, 6-1.
Freshman Shane Collins also recoreded a singles win when he swept A&M?s Paul Paise 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles competition, Kentucky received another winning performance from the 40th-ranked duo of seniors Nate Emge and Alex Hume. The tandem won their third match of the tournament against FAMU?s Frank Green and Artiom Podfani 8-2.
The Cats’ matches Wednesday are scheduled to begin at noon EST with Austin Peay. The contest vs. the Bulldogs is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. EST. Last season UK blanked Butler 4-0 in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Fans can check ukathletics.com for a complete recap of the day?s action.
