After a month long break, the Kentucky swimming and diving team will return to action Tuesday when they head to Ft. Pierce Fla., to take on Clemson and Indian River Community College. Tuesday will be the first meet for the women (2-2, 1-1 SEC) since they defeated Arkansas on Dec. 3. The men?s squad (1-1, 0-1 SEC) last competed in a meet on Nov. 5, though certain individuals from the team where last in action on Nov. 19, at the Nike Cup.
The Cats have begun the year with many strong performances. On the ladies? side, freshman Kelly Rames has made an immediate impact capturing the 200-butterfly event in the first four meets of her career. UK?s divers have also been a force winning at least one diving event in every meet that they have competed in.
Leading the men has been returning All-America Daniel Farnham. Farnham has picked up where he left off last season, establishing himself as one the nation?s best freestyle swimmers. In Farnham?s last competition, he captured the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle at the Nike Cup. Farnham?s time of 19.72 in the 50 at Nike Cup is the fourth-best score in that event in collegiate swimming this year.
?Our team has had a very good month of training and we are looking to score some really good times at Tuesday?s meet,? head coach Gary Conelly said. ?We have had some guys who haven?t competed in a meet since early November so we are looking forward to seeing them in action against a Clemson team that swam really fast at last month?s Nike Cup.?
The meet against Clemson and IRCC will run all day tomorrow beginning at 8 a.m. EST. This meet will be the beginning of a very busy week for the Cats who will return to the pool Friday at Georgia and again on Saturday against Alabama and LSU.
