The Kentucky swimming and diving teams Saturday completed their final day at the Nike Cup Swimming & Diving Championships hosted by the University of North Carolina. UK?s women finished in third place and the men ended the three-day meet in fourth.
The women wrapped up a successful tournament with a pair of wins. Senior Jessica Thompson added to her 1-meter diving title by winning the 3-meter-diving event. Sophomore Jenny Bradford also added to the Cats number of first place finishes by winning the 100 freestyle.
On the men?s side, returning All-America Daniel Farnham captured the 100 freestyle. The Rome, Ga., native also had won the 50 and 200 freestyle events earlier during the championships.
The Wildcats also received great performances from seniors Brennan Moore and Shantel Commander, freshman Kelly Rames, as well as sophomore Kristian Outinen. Moore scored a second place finish in the 200 backstroke and Commander also had a second place finish in the 200 breaststroke. Rames finished as the runner-up in the 200 butterfly, while Outinen came in second in the 200 breaststroke on the men’s side.
The UK men will return to the pool on Dec. 1 at the U.S. Open in Auburn, Ala., while the women will next be in action on Dec. 3 at Arkansas.
