The University of Kentucky men?s golf team was knocked out by No. 2 seed Oklahoma State in the second round of the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort to end its fall season.
Senior Matt Kohn recorded the lone victory for the Wildcats with a 4 and 3 win over OSU?s Jonathan Moore. Brad Doster held a one-hole lead heading into the final two holes when Trent Leon tied it up and then won on the final hole by a single stroke. Dan Woltman and Pablo Martin were all square with three holes to play, but the freshmen fell by a score of 1 up. Freshman Andy Winings fell to Tyler Leon by a final of 2 and 1, while freshman Jordan Blann was defeated by Zack Robinson by the same score.
?We?re disappointed but we played two good teams and both matches literally came down to last two holes,? said head coach Brian Craig. ?That?s match play and that?s just the way it goes. That doesn?t negate the fact that this team had a great fall and we will have a great spring.?
The Cats? spring season kicks off Feb. 16-17 at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
