The Kentucky women’s soccer team will travel to Orange Beach, Ala., this week as it plays in its 13th consecutive Southeastern Conference Tournament. UK earned the No. 7 seed and will face No. 2 seed Ole Miss in the opening game of the eight-team tournament.

UK owns an 8-10-1 (.447) all-time record in SEC Tournament play, but went 0-5-2 this season against the teams that qualified for the 2005 tourney.

The Cats (7-5-7, 3-5-3 SEC) will be looking for revenge after the Rebels (14-3-2, 8-1-2 SEC) defeated UK by a final score of 1-0 earlier this season in Lexington on the Wildcats? Senior Night. Kentucky leads 6-4 in the all-time series.

The Cats and Rebels have met three times in the SEC Tournament with UK holding a 2-1 advantage in those games. The last time they played in the postseason was Nov. 6, 2003, when Ole Miss topped the Cats 2-1. UK won a pair of conference tournament matchups over UM in 1998 and 2002.

With their 4-1 win at Mississippi State, Kentucky’s streak of conference tournament appearances remains intact. With a 3-5-3 conference record, Kentucky remains the only school in the 12-member Southeastern Conference to qualify for each eight-team post-season tournament. The event has yet to expand to a full 12-team field, so, once again, UK faced the task of finishing in the top eight of the conference standings to qualify for the SEC Tournament.

The Cats were eliminated by Tennessee by a 2-0 count in the first round of last year?s tourney. UK defeated Alabama by a 2-1 count for its only tournament title in 1995.

?We’re excited about the chance to play in the conference tournament,? said head coach Warren Lipka. ?This is what we play all year for and we need to focus and play a solid 90 minutes against Ole Miss tomorrow. It’s been our goal all season to get back to the NCAA tournament and this is the first step for our team to do accomplish that goal.?

The Cats and Rebels are set to play the opening game of the 2005 tournament. Game time is set for 1 p.m. ET at the Orange Beach Soccer Complex.
