The Kentucky men and women’s swimming and diving team fell to rival Tennessee Saturday in their first Southeastern Conference meet of the year at the Lancaster Aquatic Center.
The women’s team, in search of their first-ever victory against the Lady Vols, lost in a tightly contested meet, 124-119. The women are now 1-1 (0-1 SEC) on the young season.
The women were led by their strong diving corps. Returning SEC champions senior Jessica Thompson and junior Taryn Ignacio won the one-meter and three-meter events respectively. Senior Brennan Moore won her third event in two meets by finishing just ahead of teammate Kelly Rames in the 1000 freestyle. Rames won the 200 yard butterfly, marking the second time she has won the event in a meet this year.
The UK men also fell to Tennessee in their season-opening meet, 134-107.
Leading the men was senior Steven Manley, who captured three events. The returning All-America from Dublin Ireland, won the 200 freestyle, the 500 freestyle and was apart of the winning 200 freestyle relay team.
The UK swimming and diving team returns to the pool on Sat. Nov. 5, against Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.
