The Kentucky women?s tennis team finished their play Sunday at the USTA National Tennis Center Women’s College Tennis Invitational in Flushing Meadows, New York. The tournament was forced to play at several different sites in the New York City area due to rainy weather.
Junior Lara Maurer collected the only Wildcat win on Saturday when she defeated Cornell?s Mollie Edinson in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, in the first round of the Singles Flight A 2 bracket. Maurer ended her tournament run Sunday in the second round when she fell to South Carolina?s Laura Granzer 6-2, 7-6 (5).
In other UK action, junior Liis Sober dropped her Saturday match to Megan McGavock, of South Carolina, 6-3, 7-5. On Sunday, Sober defeated Army?s Megan Noble 6-3, 6-4.
Both senior Danielle Petrisko and junior Caroline Winebrenner fell in their two tournament matches.
The UK women?s tennis team will be back in action on Thursday at the ITA Southeast Regional Tournament in Chapel Hill, N.C. Fans can check ukathletics.com for recaps of all the tournament?s action.
