LEXINGTON ? The Kentucky men?s soccer looks to extend its eight-game home-unbeaten streak on Sunday at 1 p.m. when it welcomes SMU to the UK Soccer Complex.
?We expect a big challenge from SMU,? Kentucky head coach Ian Collins said. ?They have a very talented team and have played very well lately. It should be a good game for everyone involved.?
The Wildcats have not lost a home game since Oct. 10, 2004, going 7-0-1 since then. During that stretch, UK has outscored its opponents 16-2. Friday night, Kentucky staved off No. 25 Tulsa, 2-1, to extend the streak, which is two-games shy of the school record of 10.
?I thought Friday was the best game we?ve played this year,? Collins said. ?We came out with a lot of passion and played to the level that we?re capable of. If we repeat that performance I think we?ll be in good shape.?
Junior Riley O?Neill (Campbell River, British Columbia/Timberline) led the way against the Golden Hurricane with a goal and an assist. He has scored or assisted on nine of UK?s 14 goals this year.
The Mustangs were the preseason pick to be the C-USA champion by the league coaches. On Friday, SMU beat Marshall 4-1 to strengthen their hold on first place in Conference USA with a perfect 3-0 record.
Before joining Conference USA, the two teams met last year in Dallas. SMU won that battle, 3-1, in the season opener for both teams.
